Sonic working with Microsoft, Avid

MARIN COUNTY, CA - Sonic Solutions (www.sonic.com), based in Marin Country, CA, showed DVD Producer - WMV HD Edition at this year's NAB show in Las Vegas. The special version of the DVD authoring application supports the production of DVD titles using Microsoft Windows Media High Definition Video (WMV HD). WMV HD delivers high definition video at data rates comparable to standard definition DVD video.

A beta program for DVD Producer - WMV HD Edition will provide pros with early access to the technology. Companies looking to participate in the beta program should contact Sonic at hdbeta@sonic.com.

Sonic has plans to add export for WMV HD functionality across its product line. DVD Producer is scheduled for release in September.

In related news, Sonic's DVD authoring technology has been licensed by Avid as part of a multi-year arrangement in which the DVD technology will be integrated into Avid's nonlinear editing product line. "Avid DVD by Sonic" is one of the first products resulting from the arrangement. The application is part of Avid's Studio Tools, a low-cost DV-based bundle introduced this week as well.
