REALVIZ LAUNCHES SOFTWARE-BASED MO-CAP SOLUTION

BOSTON – At SIGGRAPH, France’s Realviz (www.realviz.com) launched Movimento, an affordable, accurate and flexible motion capture solution that eliminates the need for a motion capture production studio. The video-based motion-capture software is powered by the company’s “SMART” automatic 3D tracking engine and draws on the Realviz’s expertise in 2D and 3D motion tracking.

The new software offers users a complete and flexible solution for facial, hand, arm and full-body motion capture across a wide range of applications. Users can combine 3D camera tracking and motion capture processes for applications requiring non-static cameras (on-set mo-cap, motions spanning a very wide area, or a complex environment) and to automatically reconstruct 3D meshes from the tracked data. Capture is non intrusive, as it can be realized in natural or ambient lighting and requires no specific hardware in the scene.

The application requires a minimum of two cameras, which can be either fixed or moving. Any frame rate and/or resolution may be used. Mo-cap data from Movimento can also be exported to Autodesk MotionBuilder, 3DS Max, Maya and Softimage|XSI for further manipulation. Custom computations and/or exports can be realized through scripting (Python, Perl, TCL/TK).

Movimento currently runs on Windows and is available for purchase as software for $19,000. Movimento Total Solution, which includes Movimento software and a four camera capture system costs $45,000. Mac and Linux versions are scheduled for release later this year.
