SIDE EFFECTS SHOWS HOUDINI 8.1, HOSTS USER DEMOS

BOSTON – Toronto, Canada’s Side Effects Software (www.sidefx.com), the developer of the Houdini family of 3D software applications, is demonstrating the latest features of its recently released Houdini 8.1 at this year’s SIGGRAPH show. The new version features an animator-friendly Auto Rig, Muscle System, Character Picker and Pose Library. Enhancements to the Rigid Body and Wire dynamic solvers, and support for the importing of Collada files (www.collada.com) are also included in this latest release.

The Side Effects booth is also playing host to a number of users who are showcasing work from summer blockbusters and TV commercials. Derek Spears from Rhythm & Hues is detailing the studio’s work on Superman Returns; David Santiago from DNA is talking about The Ant Bully; Darren Lurie from Sony Pictures Imageworks is discussing Open Season; and David Mellor from Framestore-CFC is highlighting Guinness and Rexona commercials.

Visitors to the Side Effects booth can also learn more about a summer promotion that can save them up to 40 percent on Houdini Master.

Through September 30th, up to two copies of Houdini Master can be purchased at the special price of $9,999. Customers who choose the rental option for at least three months will get one month free. As a bonus, everyone who takes advantage of either of these offers will receive a free copy of the book, The Magic of Houdini.

“SIGGRAPH is a time for us to catch up with current members of the close-knit Houdini community, as well as discover many new ones,” says Kim Davidson, president and CEO of Side Effects Software. “We’re excited to be in Boston this year demonstrating what Houdini can do for studios involved in both feature film and broadcast projects.”
