THOMSON UPGRADES EDIUS NLE, PACKAGES PLUG-INS

AMSTERDAM - Thomson Grass Valley (www.thomsongrassvalley.com) showed Version 5 of its Edius nonlinear editing software at IBC, and announced an upgrade program that runs through the end of the year.

Edius now comes bundled with over $1,000 worth of third-party plug-ins and software. Plug-ins include tools from ProDAD (VitaScene + Mercalli Expert); NewBlueFX (Motion Effects + Art Effects+ Film Effects); iZotope (Audio Effects, Mastering); and Corel (DVD MovieFactory). Also included is a free package of SD and HD stock footage from Artbeats.

The application supports the emerging JPEG 2000 (J2K) compression format, allowing users to edit footage shot with the Thomson Grass Valley Infinity digital media camcorder. In addition, support has been added for formats that include AVC-Intra, XDCAM 4:2:2, Ikegami GF and AVCHD. The application is also designed to work with Thomson’s new HDStorm PCIe I/O board.

As part of the improved workflow, Edius 5 runs on Microsoft’s Windows Vista operating system. The app has new GPU-accelerated effects, and has much-improved MPEG-2 processing through multi-threading.

Edius is priced at $799, and until December 31st, users can upgrade to the new release for $249.
