Tim Gedemer is an experienced sound artist who has collaborated on Virtual Reality projects with studios that include Jaunt and Specular Theory. In this episode of “The Dolby Institute and SoundWorks Collection's Conversations with Sound Artists (Season Two),” Gedemer discusses the crazy first days of full spatial audio for the initial wave of VR projects, and why traditional filmmakers tend to stumble during their first VR experiences. He also provides a step-by-step discussion of how sound for VR works, from production capture through to the frustration of having to take off the headset so you can see the mixing console. In addition, Gedemer discusses some of his most successful collaborations, and the differences between audio for cinematic, game-based, and live VR experiences.
