May 16 LOS ANGELES - SAB Miller, one of the world's largest brewing companies, has enlisted Filmaka, here, to host a video competition that will promote its latest marketing effort as well as offer aspiring content creators an opportunity to get their work in front of a major brand.  

May 16 NEW YORK - John Cline has joined Curious Pictures as its head of production. He brings to the studio an extensive background, including work as a producer at numerous New York agencies, as well experience on the production company side of the business.  

May 16 LONDON - Smoke & Mirrors (www.smoke-mirrors.co.uk) has made two recent appointments that help strengthen its visual effects capabilities and management teams. Flame artist/VFX super Nico Cotta has come on-board, along with producer James Niklasson.  

May 16 VENICE, CA - Ashley Bartell has joined audio post house Ravenswork as its director of operations. Bartell started her career at the company, serving as a scheduler. Most recently, she served as the West Coast sales rep for The Lodge, a NY/Venice-based music production company.  

May 15 CHATSWORTH, CA - KRK Systems (www.krksys.com) has launched the second generation of its Rokit powered studio monitor line. The generation 2 Rokit incorporates technologies from the company's flagship VXT and E8B lines, including radically radiused edges along the front of the cabinet. The line up replaces the current 5-, 6- and 8-inch Rokit models.  

Identical twins Logan and Noah Miller had never produced or directed a film. Yet the 29-year-olds managed to raise money, hire a crew and attract top-notch Hollywood talent to create Touching Home, an autobiographical film they wrote, produced and directed starring Ed Harris, Brad Dourif, Robert Forster and Lee Meriwether.  

LOS ANGELES - To achieve the high contrast, brilliantly saturated color scheme the Wachowskis envisioned for Speed Racer, their hyper-stylized live action feature version of the classic animated series, the innovative duo turned to gifted young colorist Maxine Gervais and the digital intermediate team at Pacific Title & Art Studio (www.pactitle.com).
