HOLLYWOOD POST ALLIANCE PLANS FEBRUARY 'TECH RETREAT'

In addition to the educational sessions, the Retreat features demonstrations of the latest technology from post, production, broadcast and entertainment technology providers. Journalist/technology expert Mark Schubin, is joined by HPA committee members Leon Silverman, president, Laser Pacific Media; Charles S. Swartz, executive director/CEO of The Entertainment Technology Center; and Ron Burdett, CEO Sunset Digital; as well as by John Luff, senior VP of business development for AZCAR, who will coordinate the Tech Retreat Demo Room.

Highlights of this year's Technology Retreat will include half-day tutorial seminars on digital newsgathering and new display technologies for digital cinema, and the popular Roundtable Breakfasts. International experts on digital cinematography and digital cinema will also be on hand, as will top executives from networks, movie studios, satellite, and telephone companies.

“Once again, the program goes beyond the cutting edge,” says Schubin. “H.264 compression is just coming out; we’ll be describing H.265. We’ve got the National Security Agency and the MPAA. We’ll have VOD and TV for mobile devices. One-third-inch HDTV? There is a seminar on it, and another on the latest developments in Japan.”
