Proposals for 2013 HPA Tech Retreat now being accepted

HOLLYWOOD — Proposals are now being accepted for the main program of the HPA Tech Retreat, which will take place February 18-22 at the Hyatt Regency in Indian Wells, CA. They should be sent directly to Mark Schubin at TVMark@EarthLink.net no later than close of business PST on October 26.

Submissions may be on any subject related to the technology of the motion-image and related sound industries. For suggestions on the wide range of topics that may be of interest, visit the Hollywood Post Alliance Website (www.hpaonline.com).  Proposals may be for individual presentations or panels. Proposals should not be for marketing-type presentations.

In other HPA news, the 7th Annual HPA Awards are set to take place on November 1 at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles. Presented by the Hollywood Post Alliance, the Awards honor excellence in post production and bring recognition to the achievements of individuals and companies who are engaged in significant work in the field.

The Awards cover 12  craft categories, including color grading, editing, sound, and compositing for motion pictures, commercials and television. Special awards were announced earlier and will also be presented. Ray Dolby, inventor, engineer, and founder of Dolby Laboratories, will be presented with the Charles S. Swartz Award. Cinnafilm, Crossroads Systems, Dolby Laboratories, and Sony Electronics will be presented with Engineering Excellence Awards. And Gradient Interactive will be recognized for their previsualization product, Sandbox, receiving a Judges Award for Creativity and Innovation.
