Simpson Films launches post operation

NEW YORK — Simpson Films, Inc. (www.simpsonfilms.com), the production company founded by director Jerry Simpson, has expanded into editorial and post production with the launch of Eastlight Digital. SFI is known for its work in tabletop for food and product shoots, as well as more traditional scripted TV commercials and Web videos. The new creative editorial and post facility is housed in its existing building in Long Island City and can provide services to both work being produced through SFI and outside productions.

The new facility is being positioned as an on-call boutique that can handle digital dailies, editing, color grading and effects.

“Having the capabilities of Eastlight here with SFI under one roof provides clients with a service that’s much needed today,” explains Jerry Simpson. “We think there’s a tremendous creative benefit that you get from working this way. It’s also very efficient, so there’s a savings in time and money as well, which is nice. We’ll be able to go straight from the stage, sending 4K images down to Eastlight, where we can start cutting almost immediately, either with one of our Eastlight editors or one of their own.”

Heading up Eastlight Digital is Sean Donnelly, who holds the title director of operations and senior colorist.  An accomplished DP who continues to shoot projects for a range of clients, Donnelly designed the layout of the studio and will supervise all jobs that go through the post process, including color grading.

Eastlight offers clients three rooms that are equipped with Avid, Final Cut Pro and Premiere editing systems, as well as daVinci Resolve. The facility can also add VFX capabilities on an as-needed basis using Flame or Maya. The post operation has already been tapped for a recent TV spot that was shot at SFI and directed by Simpson. The :30 commercial was through agency VML in Kansas City, a WPP-owned shop, for Bear Naked brand granola.
