Nov. 14th 'Elysium' event to look at DI process

VANCOUVER, CANADA — FilmLight, Central and Dolby are teaming up to present “Elysium: Crafting the Future in DI.” The November 14th event will take place at the Vancity Theatre (1181 Seymore Street) at 6:30pm and will feature lead colorist, Andrea Chlebak, who worked with director Neill Blomkamp on the feature film.

Chlebak will detail the process of pre-visualizing Elysium’s two worlds, pre-grading VFX plates, and realizing the final aesthetic that was delivered to theaters worldwide. She will perform live examples using FilmLight's (www.filmlight.ltd.uk) Baselight system.

Using scenes from the movie, Central director of operations, Chris Davies, and FilmLight Americas managing director, Peter Postma, will provide insight into the use of the Academy Color Encoding System (ACES), its challenges and advantages, as well as how it influenced the creative process with the director.

The event will also look at the impact of simultaneously delivering for 4K digital and film projection, large format (IMAX), and home video.
