Firefly releases free universal player

PARIS — Firefly Cinema (fireflycinema.com) has launched FirePlay, a free, universal Mac OS-based player that’s able to read all digital file formats in realtime at resolutions up to 4K. FirePlay is easy to use and is geared towards professionals that work in digital cinema, particularly DPs, camera assistants and DITs.

The player can playback Red, ArriRaw, Apple QuickTime, ProRes, Canon and Sony files in realtime. By leveraging the processing power of the new Apple Mac Pro, FirePlay can read Sony RAW 4K files. Aside from supporting native camera files, FirePlay can also read OpenEXR, DPX and TIFF files. Tools are provided that allow users to apply corrections to primary and secondary colors in realtime.

In addition to FirePlay, Firefly offers a digital dailies management application in FireDay, a finishing and grading application in FireCloud, and an iPad app for dailies management called FireVision.
