ILM creates new open for 'Jimmy Kimmel Live'

SAN RAFAEL — Industrial Light & Magic (www.ilm.com) collaborated with ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live to create a new opening sequence for the late-night show. The open highlights the vibrant energy and sights of Hollywood, the home of Jimmy Kimmel Live, and begins begins with Kimmel taking the audience on a cinematic journey among the landmarks of the city. The sequence concludes with the host inviting the audience up the steps and into the studio to join him for the show.

ILM VFX supervisor Richard Bluff supervised the design and production of the new open. “It was a real honor for us to be asked to redesign the open for Jimmy Kimmel Live,” he says. “Knowing it had to stand out from the crowd and understanding it would play almost every week day of the year added extra pressure to make sure we got the tone and the impact exactly right. Through the close collaboration with show producer Tony Romero and the rest of the wonderful team at Jimmy Kimmel Live, my art director Cody Gramstad and our partners at Ghost, I believe we delivered a compelling package that I look forward to enjoying along with audiences nightly.”

Jimmy Kimmel Live is broadcast in 720p, ABC’s selected HDTV format.
