Veteran sound designer Frank Serafine to share his knowledge

LOS ANGELES — Veteran sound design Frank Serafine, whose credits include Tron and The Hunt for Red October, has planned a 33-city tour, in which he will share his knowledge with filmmakers, broadcast professionals and Web content producers.

Frank Serafine is one of Hollywood’s top sound designers. He has contributed to Academy Award-winning films, television shows, and video games. His career began back in 1979, when he took on his first project as a sound editor, creating sound for the visual effects featured in Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Today, he builds his library of recorded sound effects and licenses them to filmmakers. Many of the elements found in his library have been used in major motion pictures, including the first Lord of The Rings.

Hearing, says the audio pro, is our most prominent sense and exists in a 360-degree, omnipresent experience that constantly surrounds listeners. On the “Sound Advice Tour with Frank Serafine,” attendees will be exposed to a comprehensive overview of the role sound plays in a film, Web and broadcast production. The all-day workshop will cover techniques and tools that can be used to expand attendees’ audio skills and provide a solid foundation for the effective use of audio in a range of projects.

Serafine is partnering with MZed to produce the multi-city tour, which will begin on April 26th and run through July 2nd. MZed specializes in educational workshops and online downloads that allow participants to learning from world-class instructors. In the past MZed, has partnered up with Alex Buono, Adam Epstein, Shane Hurlbut and Vincent-Laforet.

The “Sound Advice Tour with Frank Serafine” runs from 9:00am until 7:30pm and includes an interactive workshop. It’s geared toward all levels of filmmakers and sound designers. The tour will hit all the major US cities (New York, Dallas, Los Angeles, Washington, DC), as well as a number of smaller cities (Pittsburgh, Columbus, Sacramento, Austin and Charlotte).

Serafine’s workshop will teach attendees how to implement a number of important functions, including sound recording, sound editing, sound effects, soundtracks, mixing, sound design and inspiration. Visit www.SoundAdviceTour.com for dates and tickets.
