Nylon promotes Zac Colwell to creative director

NEW YORK CITY — Music and sound boutique Nylon Studios (www.nylonstudios.com), which has offices in Manhattan and Sydney, Australia, has promoted Zac Colwell to creative director of music at their New York City studio. He joined Nylon as a composer in 2015.

Colwell is a multi-instrumentalist who has toured the world with numerous groups, including Big Data, Sondre Lerche, of Montreal, Kishi Bashi, Against Me!. He has composed original tracks for Aetna, M.A.C, Zac Posen, Honey Nut Cheerios and Unicef. In his new role as creative director, Colwell will oversee all creative output from the New York City studio, encompassing original compositions, sound design, spatial audio, mix and music licensing.

“I’ve been working with this talented team for the last two years and I’m honored to be given the opportunity to expand our relationships,” he says. “Even before I arrived, Nylon has always been known for its musical authenticity, so I’m going to continue finding new and creative ways to explore the beautiful relationship between pictures and sound, with our creative family of musicians from New York, Sydney and around the world, flowing through our studio here in Soho.”

A native of Austin, TX, Colwell grew up in a musical family, playing drums, piano, guitar, saxophone and flute. A classically-trained jazz composer, he brings a true artistic perspective to his projects and continues actively performing and composing outside of Nylon.
