COPENHAGEN, DENMARK — Rokoko (www.rokoko.com), a developer of motion-capture technology for independent creators, has updated its flagship product, the Smartsuit Pro. The next generation Smartsuit Pro II suit enables users to animate characters in realtime via a simple wifi connection to their computer running the company’s free Rokoko Studio software. Creators can record, clean and edit the data quickly, as welll as stream it live into dozens of tools, including Unreal, Unity, Blender, Maya and iClone for instantaneous feedback.
Smartsuit Pro II is currently available for pre-order for $2,745, with delivery expected in January. Rokoko Studio is available as a free download for both Mac and Windows. Setting up the Smartsuit Pro II is simple, and the suit can be used anywhere. The new version features performance upgrades to enhance characters with richer movement, while speeding up the entire animation workflow. Upgrades include elevation tracking, which allows for tracking of movement on stairs, ladders, and along the y-axis. The new suit has been optimized for high-impact use, so punching, fighting and falling will not compromise data quality. There is now better locomotion accuracy over time, reducing drift and resulting in more reliable and longer streaming times. In addition, there is now native integration into the Rokoko Smartgloves, so only one portable USB-C battery is required to power the entire motion capture system.
