Exile promotes two editors to partners

LOS ANGELES — Editors Katie Turinski and Grant Surmi are being promoted to partners at Exile (exiledit.com), where they will provide critical insight and creative leadership while working alongside current partners Shane Reid, Matt Murphy, Sasha Hirschfeld, CL Kumpata and Kirk Baxter. Exile has offices in New York and Los Angeles, and also offers Flame, After Effects and visual effects services, in-house in New York, and through their partner company, Pariah, in Los Angeles.

With nearly 20 years in the film industry, Katie Turinski’s work has spanned multiple forms and genres. Her credits include the Oscars shortlisted Netflix Original The Speed Cubers, Saturday Night Live (Seasons 47-48), multiple Super Bowl commercial campaigns, and the upcoming feature documentary Jesszilla. Her advertising clients include Facebook, Google, Nike, Coca-Cola, Ford, Sony, Samsung, Delta and Toyota. Before joining Exile, Turinski spent nine years at Joint, Wieden+Kennedy’s boutique post house.

“I found a truly special home here at Exile almost seven years ago, and it has been an honor working alongside such incredibly talented and collaborative storytellers,” says Turinski. “I’m thrilled to be joining Exile’s leadership team and excited to expand my contributions to the company.”

Grant Surmi credits in TV and film include Mindhunter, Tabloid and House of Cards, while his advertising clients include Dr. Pepper, Nike, HP, Miller Lite, Roku, Samsung and Mattress Firm. He has also edited music videos for Eminem and Billie Eilish. Since joining Exile in 2016 - two years after the company’s launch — he’s been integral to the continued growth of the edit house.

“Exile is an extraordinary place that provides unique access and relationships to the best filmmakers and agencies in the world,” says Surmi. “It’s a group of extremely nice, like-minded, world-class editors passionate about film craft. Becoming a partner is an honor, and I’m excited to contribute my years of experience to help foster and grow our upcoming talent.”
