Artjail expands motion design department

TORONTO — Boutique VFX studio Artjail (www.artjail.com) has expanded its motion design department with the recent hiring of Luke Bellissimo, who will serve as creative director of motion design/VFX artist. Bellissimo brings a well-rounded view of the entire post and design process, having built 3D worlds and simulations, animation and advanced VFX. He’s also familiar with the pitching process and has guided projects from the very start. In addition, he brings a deep understanding of composition, color, lighting and images as a whole.

Some of Bellissimo’s credits include director Adam Wilson’s short Tenderness, for which he came in at the concept phase to help develop its motion design and VFX elements. The short was accepted as an official selection and was shortlisted at this year’s Berlin Commercial Awards in more than a half-dozen categories.

Also on the festival’s official selection was a commercial for beer brand Collective Arts Brewing, for which Bellissimo constructed the winning pitch. The motion design-led film was also shortlisted at the 2023 Gerety Awards and AICP Post Awards. Some of his upcoming work includes a new project with director Liam Cushing, with whom he shares a connection for creating compelling abstract and experimental imagery, as well as visuals for Cushing’s short, Silentium.

“I've been a long-time follower of Luke's outstanding body of work,” states Steve Mottershead, creative director and owner at Artjail. “Beyond his impressive reel, I really dig his distinctive approach to motion design, which involves a unique blend of tools and techniques that bring a refreshing perspective. Luke's enthusiastic embrace of AI approaches and techniques is genuinely inspiring. His remarkable talent, professional demeanor, and strong work ethic made the decision to welcome him into the Artjail team an easy choice. I’m personally really excited to see what Luke will bring to our future projects.”
