Music Video: Megg - IDC

South Bay–born, Nashville-based alternative/pop-punk artist Megg released her IDC video in late July. The song is off her six-track EP "Low Life Club," which will drop on October 24th.

“’Low Life Club’ feels like the unofficial soundtrack to the West Coast, and is easily some of the best music I’ve ever put out,” shares the artist. "It’s multi-dimensional - the heaviness, the vulnerability, the riot, the vocal chops, the nostalgia, the party and everything in-between. It’s got a little something for everyone. I’m really proud of these songs and stoked to give them to my fans.”

IDC is set in the brightly-lit high-school classroom, where a teacher is introducing a guest speaker as part of "Career Day." She asks the students to introduce themselves, and Megg volunteers a song she's prepared, leading to a high-energy performance that makes its way through the school, from desktops to locker rooms, to the softball field outside, where the artist and her crew put a beat down on much-younger opponents. All the while, Megg is performing and sharing her lyrics, which reflect a casual, ‘I don’t care’ attitude.

Rio Noir directed, shot and edited IDC.

"Megg and I actually have close mutual friends, and I have shot some of her live shows prior to shooting IDC for her," the director explains. "We always knew we wanted to shoot together, and finally had the stars align."

While the indoor locations look like an authentic high school, they were actually shot on a soundstage in downtown Los Angeles.

"Our second location was out in South Bay, at a local softball field," Noir shares.

The whole video was shot in just one day, with the indoor shoot spanning close to six hours, and the softball-field segment taking place over another three. A Sony FX3 was used for the shoot, equipped with a Tamron 28-75mm lens. A Laowa 10mm lens was used for the ultra-wide shots.

Noir performed the edit and color grade using Apple's Final Cut Pro, giving the final video a polished look with its bright colors and blues skies.

"We kept everything within budget, so trying to fit everything within one day was a must," explains the director. "The girls softball team was such a win for us. Megg was able to connect with some friends locally in South Bay, which allowed us to shoot at the field without interruptions, and all the girls came dressed shoot-ready, which was a huge help!"

As for the edit, Noir says there was an abundance of footage to draw from.

"I had more clips than expected. We shot so much narrative takes that we had to trim so many moments to make it fit into the fast pacing of the song. (It) truly felt like a roller coaster after seeing first cut that we had to run it back."

IDC has a "bonus" at the end of the video, with stylized credits that introduce all of the characters. In addition to Megg, the artists is accompanied by friends and her band, which includes Sebastien Betley, Rob Nagelhout, Hunter Porter and Martin Dovali.
