Red's new Raptor camera outfitted with 'essential' features

FOOTHILL RANCH, CA - Red Digital Cinema (red.com) has unveiled the V-Raptor XE, the newest addition to its Z Cinema camera lineup. The streamlined version of the V-Raptor [X] curates the essential tools for cinematic storytelling while offering improved boot times as well as all-new sensor optimization for more efficient use of power. Designed for independent creators looking for uncompromising image quality, the XE delivers large-format, cinema-grade features at a price point of $14,995.

The E in XE stands for “essentials.” The new camera retains Red’s 8K large-format (VV) global shutter sensor found in the V-Raptor [X] series, ensuring the cinematic image fidelity, dynamic range and low-light performance that filmmakers are familiar with. Red is targeting indie filmmakers, documentarians, commercial shooters and storytellers who require cinema-grade visuals without the need for every advanced feature found in a fully-loaded model.

Key features include the ability to shoot 8K VV at up to 60fps; 6K S35 at up to 80fps; 4K at up to 120fps; and 2K up to 240fps. A forthcoming firmware update will provide a reduced boot time and sensor power consumption. The XE’s low light capabilities include 17 stops, and mount choices include RF or Nikon Z. The compact body weighs in at just over four pounds, allowing for flexibility in a range of shooting environments. In addition, the XE is compatible with existing V-Raptor accessories.

V-Raptor XE is available to order today and will begin shipping in October. A Cine Essentials Pack, priced at $19,995, will include the XE camera, a PL w/electronic ND filter adapter pack, a DSMC3 Red Touch 7.0-inch LCD and the Outrigger Handle. Komodo and Komodo-X owners can trade in their camera and receive credit towards the purchase of the new V-Raptor XE or [X] camera or pack.
