Warner Bros. Pictures' One Battle After Another received 13 Academy Awards nominations, including those for director Paul Thomas Anderson, cinematographer Michael Bauman and editor Andy Jurgensen.
The film tells the story of washed-up revolutionary Bob (Leonardo DiCaprio), who exists in a state of stoned paranoia, surviving off-the-grid with his spirited, self-reliant daughter, Willa (Chase Infiniti). When his evil nemesis (Sean Penn) resurfaces after 16 years, and Willa goes missing, the former radical scrambles to find her.
Baumann shot the film in VistaVision, as director Paul Thomas Anderson wanted the audience to experience the film in both that large format and in additional large formats, such as IMAX and 70mm film. The feature was shot on-location in real places, including Sacramento and Borrego Springs. In total, the shoot spanned more than 10 California counties, with production starting in Eureka before moving through the state and then over to El
Paso, TX.
Additional Oscar nominations include Actor in a Leading Role (DiCaprio), Actor in a Supporting Role (Benicio del Toro, Sean Penn), Actress in a Supporting Role (Teyana Taylor), Casting (Cassandra Kulukundis), Music/Original Score (Jonny Greenwood), Sound (José Antonio García, Christopher Scarabosio and Tony Villaflor), Production Design (Florencia Martin, Anthony Carlino) and Best Picture.
