Hayley Porter named executive director of WIA

LOS ANGELES – WIA (wearewia.org), formerly Women in Animation, has appointed Hayley Porter executive director. The nonprofit is dedicated to advancing women, non-binary and underrepresented talent in animation, VFX and gaming.

Porter brings more than 25 years of experience operating at a senior leadership level across the animation and entertainment industry. She has advised executive teams, identified business opportunities and strategic partnerships, and led international marketing and PR campaigns. Her career includes in-house and consulting roles with Aardman, Locksmith Animation, Baobab Studios and Sunrise Productions, among others. In addition, she was part of the campaign team for War Is Over!, inspired by the music of John & Yoko, which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 2024.

As the organization's first executive director, Porter will provide strategic leadership across WIA’s global programs and initiatives, working closely with the board and executive committees to ensure strong governance and alignment. Having been part of WIA’s PR and fundraising committee for almost a decade, she will now focus on expanding WIA’s international presence, strengthening industry partnerships, driving membership growth, advancing fundraising efforts and deepening stakeholder engagement.

“We’re thrilled to bring Hayley on board,” states WIA president Marge Dean. “We look forward to the vision, leadership and international perspective she brings. Her dedication and commitment to gender equity within the animation, VFX and gaming fields are an asset and will be critical in amplifying our efforts globally.”

“Supporting women and non-binary creators has always been central to my work throughout my career, " adds Porter. “As the industry continues to navigate significant challenges and rapid change, my focus is on building upon and strengthening WIA’s foundation while accelerating our international and membership growth.”
