AMSTERDAM - At IBC, Madison, WI's Sony Creative Software (www.sonycreativesoftware.com)
showed Vegas Pro 8,
the newest version of its nonlinear editing software. The updated release is
now available and allows users to deliver to platforms ranging from high
definition to mobile devices.
A new 32-bit floating point video engine allows Vegas Pro 8
to deliver increased quality and accuracy of final output while handling a
10-bit serial digital interface (SDI) at full capacity. The release is fully Microsoft
Vista-compatible, and now features a ProType titler for high-quality
vector-based title generation and automation. Specialized templates have been
added for users working in the portrait/9:16 aspect ratio, which is becoming
more and more common in retail advertising. Vegas Pro 8 also now supports
multicamera workflows.
Thought Equity's Motion Footage Search plug-in helps Vegas 8
users find and access stock footage, and content from Sony Pictures, National
Geographic and HBO is available to registered Vegas Pro 8 users.
On
the audio side, Vegas Pro 8 has a new mixing console and routing capabilities,
as well as tempo-based effects and support for opening and rendering FLAC file.
In
regard to formats, read and write support has been added for Sony AVCHD, and no
recompression takes place when rendering long-GOP video formats. Sony's DVD Architect 4.5 is included with Vegas Pro 8 and
now features 44 professional design themes. The company is also providing a
series of interactive tutorials to help users get up to speed.

at $699.95 and upgrade pricing for current users is also available.
