IMAGINEER TAKES ON FLAME WITH MOGUL

LAS VEGAS — UK-based Imagineer Systems (www.imagineersystems.com), the maker of VFX solutions such as Mocha and Mokey, is introducing a new collection of rotoscoping, compositing and finishing tools at this year's NAB show. The Mogul suite of integrated, modular VFX systems and applications will be available to users on a subscription basis, and are positioned as a lower-priced alternative to Autodesk's Flame, as there are no upfront costs. The monthly subscription will cover both hardware and software upgrades, giving studios the most up-to-date releases at all times.

"The arrival of Mogul is a watershed moment for the visual effects industry and we're extremely proud of what we've created," says Allan Jaenicke, CEO of Imagineer Systems.

Mogul is comprised of a combination of system-level and desktop application-level components, tightly integrated to optimize the creative collaborative workflow experience. Key systems components include a collaborative shared storage management system (Mogul/Serve); a file browser application designed for working with media and metadata (Mogul/Browse); a disk-based playback and review system (Mogul/Review) that includes tools for quality control and annotation; an interactive finishing system (Mogul/Master) with I/O, 3D compositing, editing and grading tools; and a dedicated I/O system (Mogul/Traffic), with capture, layback, encoding and job duplication, all on a dedicated workstation.

Modular, integrated cross-platform visual effects desktop applications that plug into the Mogul architecture include rotoscoping, 2D and 3D tracking, paint, and node-based compositing. Mogul desktop apps (Mogul/Roto, Mogul/Track, Mogul/Paint and Mogul/Comp) are 100 percent compatible with Mogul/Master, enabling work to be seamlessly shared between the desktop and system tools. The desktop applications also enable facilities to scale capacity as required on a project-by-project basis without large capital investments.
