NetApp's MCM addresses large HD workflows
November 7, 2011

HOLLYWOOD — NetApp (www.netapp.com) has introduced a solution for bandwidth-intensive environments that offers facilities high performance and always-available data access to maximize collaborative efforts and improve workflows. The NetApp Media Content Management (MCM) provides the infrastructure needed for video pros and content developers to ingest, produce, process, archive, and deliver data with the flexibility to scale performance and capacity.

MCM is designed to provide a central active repository for media production and distribution workflows. The high bandwidth and capacity density of the solution is designed to allow facilities to improve their media workflows to better monetize their content.

NetApp tested the MCM with partner Atto Technology’s Celerity Fibre Channel HBAs, including single-, dual-, and quad-channel configurations, and found customers to received reliable, high-performance Fibre Channel connectivity.

Tests revealed 3.48 GB/sec of video Bandwidth from a 4RU chassis. With four Macintosh clients running Final Cut Pro 7, the NetApp MCM solution played back 22 uncompressed HD (1920 x 1080, 10-bit YUV) video streams overnight without dropping any frames.
