Red's accessible V-Raptor XE makes NAB debut

FOOTHILL RANCH, CA - At NAB, Red Digital Cinema (red.com) showed off the latest addition to its Z Cinema line - the V-Raptor XE. The V‑Raptor XE delivers large‑format, cinema‑grade performance at a price point of $14,995. The camera is built on Red’s V‑Raptor [X] architecture and introduces a streamlined design that provides the essential features for storytelling with new system‑level efficiencies enhanced by V.2.2 firmware. The result is a compact, accessible camera that brings Red’s signature cinematic fidelity and dynamic range to a wider range of productions.

The XE offers versatile capture options with frame rates up to 60fps in 8K VV, 80fps in 6K S35, 120fps in 4K, and 240fps in 2K. Improvements include gains in boot speed and sensor power performance. The XE offers 17 stops of dynamic range, low‑light capabilities, RF or Nikon Z mount options and a compact body that weighs just over four pounds.

Red also showed off the full potential of raw imaging at the interactive R3D NE workflow station, where attendees could see the flexibility of raw footage managed by the high performance and secure Pro Data by Iodyne. Attendees could explore the benefits of Red’s IPP2 color pipeline, from color management to editing in leading NLEs. The demo highlighted how R3D and raw workflows unlock maximum dynamic range, flexibility and creative control
