CULVER CITY, CA - On Thursday, June 18th, SMPTE and the 8K Association will present a look at the rapidly evolving 8K ecosystem. Taking place at The Culver Theater (9500 Culver Boulevard) from 6pm to 9pm, the event will feature playback of native 8K content on the facility's 8K screen, providing many attendees with their first opportunity to experience a true 8K presentation in a premium theatrical environment. Attendees will also discover how 8K enhances immersion, realism and creative storytelling, and how these same benefits are expected to translate to the home as larger displays continue to gain adoption.
Among the media presented will be material from West Side Story (MGM), 2001: A Space Odyssey (Warner Bros.), StEM2 Film (ACES) and IMAX. Following these presentations, industry experts will discuss the technologies, workflows, standards and innovations that are driving the next generation of 8K premium viewing experiences.
Panelists slated to appear include Brandon Heaslip (director, Colorfront), Greg Ciaccio (VP, IMAX) and Mike Kobb (principal engineer, Kaleidescape). SMPTE Hollywood chair Juan Reyes, who is also executive director of the 8K Association, will moderate the discussion.
Attendance is open to all, though SMPTE members will have priority seating.
