Codex at NAB with new Onboard S recorder

LAS VEGAS — Codex, maker of digital media recorders and media management systems for film and television production is at NAB this year with the Codex Onboard S Recorder.

The Codex Onboard S is designed to work with compact HD cameras like the Sony PMW-F3 and the Canon EOS C300. Data is recorded onto Codex’s new Capture Drives from the HD-SDI output of the camera. The Capture Drives come in 240GB and 480GB sizes, in a rugged CNC casing. The Onboard S is shipping now with all features implemented. It comes from the same team that designed the Codex Onboard M (used on more than 100 movies last year) and shares a common user interface.

Codex (www.codexdigital.com) has partnered with both Vocas and Arri’s PCA group to design new mounts and hand-held solutions for the cameras and Onboard S recorders. The Capture Drives will be fully compatible with the Codex Transfer Station for Mac OS X and the Codex Vault S, allowing for the QC of material, creation of deliverables and archiving of the original camera data.

“The Onboard S gives customers the reliability and robustness they’ve become accustomed to from Codex products,” stated Codex managing director Marc Dando. It also provides them with the entire Codex workflow that has become the industry standard for data-centric production. The new form factor of the Onboard S is ideal for these smaller cameras and gives us the opportunity to serve a wider market with a broader range of products.”
