SOUTH KOREA - Jinkyu Han (editorhan.me/tools) is an on-set editor in the Korean film/TV industry who developed First Rush, a MacOS SDI recorder that follows the camera's REC flag to capture multi-cam feeds straight to Apple ProRes. Recordings are then sent to Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve with designations for scene, cut and take, as well as with timecode.
First Rush is capable of live color grading, with ASC CDL wheels, and offers scopes for monitoring false color, zebra and peaking. Realtime compositing and clip playback is possible over SDI. Markers carry into Final Cut as chapters. A companion viewer is available for the iPhone and iPad that streams over a local network or direct P2P. The solution is built on Blackmagic Design DeckLink and AJA SDKs, allowing it to work with both.
First Rush 2.1 is now available for download via Apple's App Store. Han is offering a free seven-day trial, and then a subscription cost of $140 annually.
